The California Highway Patrol has released more details pertaining to the fatal traffic accident that occurred Friday morning. The accident was reported at 10:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 8 west of Dunaway Road. According to the CHP , an SUV towing a heavily loaded trailer apparently drifted off the roadway and the driver attempted to steer the SUV and trailer back to the highway. The Vehicle and the trailer went out of control and overturned. The SUV rolled several times ejecting all 9 occupants , none of whom were properly restrained. Two adults , a 42-year old man and a 31-year old woman , both from Lakeside , California , sustained fatal injuries. The other 7 occupants were children ranging in age from 12 years old to 1 year old. The children suffered a variety of injuries and were transported to various hospitals from Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego to Loma Linda University and U.C. Riverside to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Two car seats were found in the vehicle but none of the children were restrained properly. The adults were pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP said that their officers and Good Samaritans provided medical aid and assistance to the children until fire and ambulance personnel arrived. The accident remains under investigation.
