(County Contingent travels to the Nation’s Capital)…They made the trip last week.

Making the trip was County Board of Supervisors Chairman Ray Castillo, Supervisor Mike Kelley, CEO Tony Rouhotas, and Intergovernmental Relations Director Rebecca Terrazas-Baxter. The visit was to meet with members of the Senate and House of Representatives, Senate and House Appropriations Committee staff, and several federal regulatory agencies related to various issues of priority to the area. Office meetings were held with Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, Congress members Juan Vargas and Raul Ruiz, who represents portions of Riverside County. Specific topics of discussion included seeking support for the development of an interagency Salton Sea Working Group to advance and coordinate support of state and local restoration efforts and financial resources for the implementation of the Salton Sea Management Plan. Meetings were also held to discuss the need for funding the final phase of the Calexico West Land Port reconfiguration and expansion project. Supervisor Kelley said he was impressed with the reception the County Contingent received. Castillo said he felt they accomplished getting the message across to the legislators on the need for funding the Calexico Port Project
