(Relief for Southbound Border Crossers)….Traffic congestion has been a serious problem for those going into Mexicali.
Mexico is doing something about the problem. Carlos Guzman, Mexicali Customs Administrator, says new vehicle crossing lanes are being constructed. Guzman and Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors held a construction update Tuesday. Guzman said the current four lanes are being expanded to nine lanes. He said they are expected to be operational by the first week of May. He said an additional tenth lane is expected to be open by July. Renison said he was very happy with the prompt response to the southbound traffic problem. He said the expansion should greatly reduce the traffic congestion on Imperial Avenue in Calexico.
