An estimated 500 kids went fishing at Sunbeam Lake Saturday morning. The lake has been stocked with catchable trout and the kids caught them.
The 19th Annual Jr Trout Fishing Derby was sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of El Centro , The Imperial County Fish and Game Commission and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife along with the County of Imperial. Prizes were awarded to boys and girls in various age brackets. The winners in the girls up to 5 years were, 3rd Sarai Aguirre, 2nd Mekenna Jackson and 1st Nisa Garcia. Winners in the Boys up to 5 years category were 3ed Seth Ellis , 2nd Joseph Garcia and 1st Santiago Munoz. Girls 6 to 8 winners were 3rd Addison Clunn , 2nd Jacquelyn Mordah and 1st Xatziry Matus. 6 to 8 boys winners were 3rd Jake Bottenor , 2nd Dominic Vasquez and 1st Michael Partridge. Girls 9 to 11 winners were 3rd Mia Alvares , 2nd Jayden Vaquez and 1st Isabella Dinelli. Boys 9 to 11 winners were 3rd Diego Rivera , 2nd Dominic Maldonado and 1st Jadhir Videno. In the 12 to 15 group the girls winners were 3rd Vanessa Rosas , 2nd Paulina Calen and 1st Samantha Rubin. The boys 12 to 15 winners were 3rd Marcos Rosales , 2nd Beau Erro and 1st Ceasar Rodriquez. The prize for the biggest trout went to Mykala Charney who caught a 17 inch Rainbow trout.
