Brawley Gets Funds For Theater

The Brawley Community Foundation Fund has been awarded a grant of $70,000.

The grant was awarded by the Imperial Valley Community Foundation ( IVCF ) to launch the restoration of the historic Brawley Theater in downtown Brawley. The Brawley Community Foundation has undertaken the restoration of the building , built in 1922 , that has been renamed the Brawley Playhouse Theater. Once finished it's expected the theater will host stage productions, musical performances , office spaces and serve as a civic and cultural center for Brawley.

Bobby Brock , President/CEO of IVCF , said , " The Brawley Theater is a great model for other communities to follow." Brock said the IVCF is working with other Imperial Valley communities to establish local , community-based funds that residents and businesses can contribute to in order to meet needs and improve the quality of life in their geographic area. Advisory committees are being formad and donations requested to establish " community funds " in Calexico , El Centro , Holtville and Imperial.
