(National Beef is closing their Brawley facility)….The announcement comes from their Kansas City headquarters.
In a press release, National Beef says their last day of production at the Brawley plant will be April 4th. The move is expected to displace about 1,300 employees at the facility. The company says the employees will be offered support, including assistance in finding employment at another National Beef facility. Company officials site a declining supply of fed cattle available for the Brawley facility as a key driver of the decision to close the plant according to chief executive officer Tim Klein. National Beef says they have not determined the future status of the facility. There are unconfirmed rumors that Tyson Foods is interested in purchasing the facility. National Beef acquired the Brawley facility in 2006.
