(Two suffer burns in off-road collision)….It was reported at 5:45 Tuesday evening.
The California Highway Patrol says a 47-year-old Moorepark resident was driving the sand rail in the Imperial Sand Dune Recreational Area. He was northbound in the open desert area of Glamis at approximately 70 miles per hour. The unidentified driver lost control of the vehicle, and the CHP says it over-turned, coming to rest on its top. The sand rail became fully engulfed in flames. The driver and a passenger, a 25-year-old man from Chandler, Arizona, were momentarily trapped in the vehicle. The Highway Patrol says they were helped out of the sand rail. Both suffere3d 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the majority of their bodies. The driver was flown by REACH Air Ambulance to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego. The passenger was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley by Gold Cross Ambulance. The CHP says they are continuing to investigation the incident.
