(Inmate dies)…He had been found unresponsive in his cell.
Correctional officers at Calipatria State Prison found the inmate in his cell Wednesday afternoon or early evening. When the man would not respond, he was transported to Pioneer’s Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room. Deputy County Coroner Rodolfo Barron says the man was a 37-year-old Hispanic male out of the Los Angeles area. Barron said his name could not be released until after his family is notified of his death. The Deputy Coroner said he could not speculate on the cause of the inmate’s death. He did say drug paraphernalia was found in the man’s cell. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
