(It was a historic coming together)….The Salton Sea Memorandum of Understanding was signed Thursday morning.
The MOU ends 10 years of squabbling about how to deal with the Salton Sea under the Quantification Settlement Agreement. During the ceremonies, the MOU was signed by the County Board of Supervisors, the Imperial Irrigation District and the County Air Pollution Control District. The Signing Ceremony was held at Red Hill Marina, northwest of Calipatria at the Salton Sea. Speakers included Assemblyman Manuel Perez, Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors Ray Castillo, President of the Imperial Irrigation District Matt Desert and Roger Shintaku, General Manager of the Salton Sea Authority. The MOU pledges the signees will work together to devise affirmative solutions that will ensure the agreement promotes public health, the environment and the regional economy.
