(IID’s new Energy Safety Campaign)….It is focused at 7th and 8th grade students. The Imperial Irrigation District kicked off the new program during the 27th anniversary of Public
Power Week this month. The program is for students in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys, and it teaches the importance of indoor and outdoor electrical safety. The IID issued a newsletter, the Safety Surge, to Junior High Schools in both Valleys. It has information about where electricity comes from as well as how it is delivered. It is hoped the students share the newsletter with their families. To get students involved spreading the word, the District has created a contest for a chance to win one of 3 iPOD Touches or one of seven gift cards. The 7th and 8th grade students are being asked to submit a song, poem, illustration, essay or a combination thereof expressing their electrical safety message. Entries must be received by October 31st. Winners will be announced during the week of November 12th. More information on energy safety is available at dippyduck.com.
