Caltrans crews will extend one-way traffic through Wednesday on a segment of State Route 111 near Niland.

Because of the Niland Geyser Mitigation Project , both directions of traffic on SR-111 will alternately share one open lane day and night as pile-driving work continues. The area at Davis and Gillespie Roads , about 5 miles north of Niland , is affected. The speed limit through the construction zone has been reduced to 55 mph.

Beginning Thursday , the construction schedule is expected to return to 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The Niland Geysers Mitigation Project will result in re-routing a portion of State Route 111 to move away from a naturally occurring geyser that is encroaching on the roadway.
