A bicyclist suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night.

According to the El Centro Police Department , at about 8:00p.m. , the bicyclist was eastbound on the northside of  the 1600 block of Adams Avenue when he rode off the curb and into the path of oncoming traffic. A westbound vehicle was unable to see the bike rider due to the bike not being equipped with lighting and the rider having pulled onto the street in front of a parked car. The westbound vehicle struck the bicyclist knocking the rider off the bike and onto the pavement. The rider was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center and then transferred to a San Diego trauma center due to the severity of injuries to his legs and pelvis. The accident remains under investigation.
