The Imperial Valley Food Bank will break ground on a brand new storage facility Friday.

The facility , at the Imperial Business Park near Aten and La Brucherie Roads in Imperial , will provide a significant larger storage capability for the local non-profit organization. As part of the ground breaking ceremony Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia will present the local agency with a $500,000 CalRecycle grant that will be used to purchase the cooler and freezer systems needed for the warehouse. The grant is from the California Climate Investment program with the objective of lowering overall greenhouse gas emission by expanding waste prevention projects and diverting food from landfills. The Imperial Valley Food Bank serves over 20,000 individuals monthly in Imperial County.
