Calexico - Tonight we will have the flautist Elena Duran, with piano accompaniment give a concert in Rodney Auditorium from 6:30 pm to 7:20 pm. This event is open to the public, faculty, and staff, without charge.

The concert is sponsored by the Mexican Consulate and will provide both Mexican and American music.  The Mexican pieces will include ones by Agustín Lara (Solamente Una Vez), Jose Pablo Moncayo (Amatzinac), Tata Nacho (Asi Es Mi Tierra), and other favorites.  The American pieces will include ones by Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story), Stephen Foster (Sewanee River), Scott Joplin, and other favorites.

Holtville High School Principal Jacki Hester commented, "Now that educational resources are focused on Meeting the Standards in core subjects for literacy and education at today’s High Schools, culturally inspired events such as Elena Duran in Concert provide a special opportunity to help round students educations. SDSU and the Mexican Consulate should be commended for bringing these types of programs to Imperial Valley."
