 Calexico, California - This week, with a multi-media presentation on “Cultural change and Shifts in Literacy Practices”, Dr. Lasisi Ajayi of the Teacher Education Program, dressed in his native Nigerian attire, added the finishing touch to the Faculty Lecture Series’s second successful year at San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus.
Since its inception in the fall of 2005, the series has served as a sounding board for faculty to share their research with the University and local communities before submitting it for publication or presenting it as a formal paper at a professional conference. Additionally, as a service to our cross-border Spanish-speaking community, the campus court-interpreting students provide simultaneous interpreting for all of the lectures, which are free and open to the public. Among the lectures so far, to mention only a few, have been Dean Stephen Roeder’s “The Teaching of Physics to University Students”, Dr. Glen Swiadon’s “Cent ans de la chanson française” (“One Hundred Years of French Song”), and Dr. Juan Carlos Ramirez-Pimienta’s “El narcocorrido” (“Drug-trafficking Ballads”).
