This year’s commencement processional included; Dr. Dana W. Murphy, Mr. Ruben Moreno, Dr. Nancy Marlin, Dr. Stephen L. Weber, Ms. Norma A. Aguilar, Dr. Stephen B.W. Roeder, Dr. Khosrow Fatemi, Dr. Fred Hornbeck, Dr. Thomas R. Scott, and Ms. Miriam C. Ungson. The San Diego State University Commencement Degree recipients with Honors included: Summa Cum Laude – Alejandra Camacho, Marlyn Garcia, and Wen Feng Situ. The Magna Cum Laude – Anthoney Gregory Arevalo, Russell Travis Peck, and Marcia Fernanda Salgado. The Cum Laude recipients – Amparo Chavez, Norma Alicia Gerardo, Gabriel Guerrero, Blanca Elizabeth Hernandez, Bianca Luliana Leon, Sergio Lopez, Cynthia Marisol Mancha, Denise Paulina Morales, Christine Rodriguez, Man Kam Tam, & Marie Joan Victa. The complete 2007 commencement ceremony included 235 Bachelor Degree recipients, 46 Credential recipients, and 13 Master Degree recipients. San Diego State University Imperial Valley Dean of the Campus Stephen B.W. Roeder stated, “As tonight’s graduates look back at their alma mater in the coming years, they will realize that their education at San Diego State University not only educated them for specific careers but also transformed their understanding of themselves and their world. Only then will they fully realize how much a university education contributed to the quality of their lives. A liberal education is a liberating education. Achieving a university degree is only the first stage in a lifetime of learning.” . This years commencement also marked the first graduating class from the Freshman Program developed when Dr. Khosrow Fatemi was Dean of the Campus. The Freshman Program at San Diego State University- Imperial Valley continues to thrive and grow each academic year. “This year we expect to meet a maximum capacity of 50 incoming freshmen,” said Norma A. Aguilar, freshman recruiter for San Diego State University-IV. "Our goal is to make all local students aware that they have another option for higher education in the Imperial Valley.” |
