SDSU/Imperial Valley Campus announces commencement will take place Thursday, May 17th at 7:00 pm on the Rollie Carrillo quad. Preceding this year's commencement, the campus tower will be dedicated to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of former Dean David Ballesteros. The dedication ceremony will take place at 5:45 pm in the main Administration building.According to Dr. Stephen B.W. Roeder, Dean of the Campus, "we are pleased to be able to name the tower for David Ballesteros who served as Dean from 1983 until 1997. His contributions included successfully obtaining funding for over $6.1 million dollars in new buildings for Calexico's campus." This year's outstanding Student is Anthony Arevalo. The Most Influential faculty member named is Dr. Nancy Livingston. The Academic Excellence Award this year goes to Alejandra Camacho.Another special feature of this year's commencement is the recognition of the 8 Freshman scholar graduates. This marks the first year SDSU/Imperial Valley Campus is actually graduating students who began attending as Freshmen. Former Dean Khosrow Fatemi will be in attendance, who along with Dean Roeder will offer special congratulations. Fatemi is President of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon.
