Calexico, California - Since Craig Elmore’s (Imperial Bioresources LLC) highly acclaimed lecture on renewable energy at San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus last November, environmental consciousness and general interest in the topic of renewable energy has continued to increase.
In 2007, Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the Nobel Peace Prize. Green building and renewable energy have mushroomed. Congress passed the Green Jobs Act of 2007, authorizing $125 million for green job training.
Over 700 U.S. mayors, representing 25 percent of the U.S. population, have signed a pledge to reduce greenhouse gases by 2012. Illinois became the 26th state to require that some of the state's electricity come from renewable sources and Kansas became the first state to refuse, for health and environmental reasons, a permit for a new coal-fired power plant. The renewable energy movement is definitely on the move. Against this backdrop, the Faculty Lecture Series at SDSU-Imperial Valley Campus is pleased to announce that Mr. Elmore has agreed to present an updated and expanded version of his 2007 lecture on renewable energy in Imperial County.
The lecture, free and open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in Room LA3. Simultaneous interpretation in English and Spanish will be provided by the students of the campus court interpreting certificate program.
