Imperial, California. On Thursday, November 29, Charley Trujillo of Chusma House Publications in San Jose, California, will speak at Imperial Valley College on “Soldados: Latinos: From WWII to Iraq”. Co-sponsored by the Associated Students of Imperial Valley College, the Committee on Diversity and Equity of San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus, and the Southern California Branch of Defend the Honor Coalition, the event, free and open to the public, will take place at 12 noon in the Student Center, 380 East Aten Road in Imperial, California.

Simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation will be made available. Charley is the author of the prize-winning books, Soldados: Chicanos in Vietnam and Dogs from Illusion. A native of Corcoran, a small agricultural community of the San Joaquin Valley of California, he served in Viet Nam as an infantry sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal. After his discharge he continued his education, receiving a BA from UC Berkeley and an MA from San José State University. Defend the Honor Coalition is a national organization whose mission is to correct the historical record regarding Latino participation in U.S. military interventions, especially World War II.
