Sacremento - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell today announced 408 schools will receive implementation grants totaling more than $101 million from the High Priority Schools Grant Program. The four Imperial County Schools scheduled to receive grants are:
- William Moreno Junior High of Calexico Unified School District - $ 503,200.00
- Heber Elementary of Heber Elementary School District - $ 301,600.00
- Dool Elementary of Calexico Unified School District - $ 282,000.00
- Meadows Elementary of Meadows Union District - $ 202,400.00
Participation in the grant process requires the schools to work with their district to develop plans designed to improve student learning and school academic performance, and must include implementation of State Board of Education-endorsed components supporting academic student achievement. The plans are then submitted for approval by the State Board of Education. Schools with approved plans would receive $400 per student per year for up to four years. Grantees will be responsible for achieving at least "significant growth" of 10 points on the Academic Performance Index over three years, and positive growth in two of the last three years that they participate in the program. Schools that fail to improve will be required to undertake further corrective actions to improve student achievement. |
