U.S. Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle Fiday morning.

Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a sport-utility vehicle that was northbound on Highway 111 near Ross Road. The SUV failed to yield and then went southbound on Highway 111 and then west on Interstate 8. The vehicle exited on Forrester Road and made it's way to the border.The SUV stopped once it neared the border and two occupants ran south into Mexico. U.S. Border Patrol agents contacted Mexican authorities who were able to arrest the pair. Inside the vehicle agents discovered more than a half ton of marijuana with a street value of over $800,000. The SUV and the marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
