(Developer pulls out of project)…The Mega Park project in Calexico will not be built. The Developer for the Mega Park backed out of the project recently. They claimed the poor economy in Imperial County. Litigation may have also played a part in the decision. This week all actions allowing for the project were rescinded. On Monday, the Calexico Planning Commission agreed to a measure to rescind the Project. Tuesday the City Council followed up on that recommendation. The Mega Park had been planned for 155 acres at the Southeast coroner of Highway 111 and Jaspar Road. A group calling itself Citizens for Honesty and Integrity had filed a lawsuit against the project. The suit claimed concern for the greenhouse gases that would be emitted from the construction and maintenance of the Mega Park.
