(Grants approved)…..County Planning and Development Director Jurg Heuberger says 5 of the 7 grants applied for have been approved.

The applications were submitted to the Department of Housing and Community Development. Heuberger told the County Board of Supervisors Tuesday the five grants approved come to $2.9 million. The bulk of the funds will be used for Housing Rehabilitation in Bombay Beach, Niland, Heber, Winterhaven and the Poe Colonia in Brawley. Funds will also be used to clear blighted areas in Bombay Beach and in Niland, and funds will be used for road improvements in the Poe Colonia. Heuberger said the Housing and Community Development office also approved an $800,000 grant for the City of El Centro and a $408,000 grant for the City of Imperial. He said the two grant applications that were rejected were because plans and specifications were not complete. One application was for the relocation of the TB Homes at County Center 2. The other was for the planned Community Center in Seeley. Heuberger said funding would be sought through the Parks and Recreation grants for the Seeley Community Center.
