(8 more H1N1 deaths reported)…All 8 were reported in San Diego County. In Imperial County there has only been one possible death related to the H1N1 virus since the epidemic began. The latest report comes on the heals of the local Public Health Department issuing a symptom analysis. The analysis compares cold, seasonal flu and H1N1 symptoms. It is intended to assist residents to tell the difference between the three illnesses. According to the comparison sheet, Fever is rare for cold sufferers. It is common for the seasonal flu and usually present for H1N1. A hacking, productive cough is present with a cold, one that produces mucus. A dry-hacking cough is often present with the regular flu, and a non-productive cough is usually present with H1N1. Slight body aches are present with a cold. Moderate body aches are experience with the seasonal flu. Aches and pains are severe with H1N1. A stuffy nose is present with a cold. A runny nose is present with seasonal flu. A stuffy nose is not common with H1N1. Chills are uncommon with a cold, mild to moderate with the normal flu. 60% of people experience chills with H1N1. With a cold, tiredness is mild, it is moderate with seasonal flu and moderate to severe with H1n1. Sneezing is common with a cold, and with seasonal flu, but not with H1N1. With a cold symptoms tale a few days to develop, the same with seasonal flu. Symptoms for H1N1 are rapid, occurring within 3-6 hours. A headache is uncommon with a cold, fairly common with the normal flu and very common with H1N1. A sore throat is common with a cold and the seasonal flu, but not common with H1N1. Chest discomfort is mild with a cold, Moderate with seasonal flu and severe with H1N1. The Health Department recommends sneezing into your elbow, wash hands for up to 20 seconds or more, use hand sanitizer when no soap and water is available and avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth without washing or using hand sanitizer first. |
