(No Drunk Drivers found at Checkpoint)….El Centro Police set-up a DUI Checkpoint late last week.

The Checkpoint was up from8:00 pm to 2:00 am. During that time, no DUI’s were found. Sergeant John Seaman says that means the Checkpoint was a success. He said the whole point is to get Drunk drivers off the roadways, and not necessarily arrest them. The Sergeant said 492 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Eleven drivers were found to be in violation of some type of Driver’s License violation, either driving without a Drivers License or operating their vehicle on an expired license. Ten vehicles were towed, and one was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The operation was paid for through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
