DUI Checkpoint tonight in El Centro

(Checkpoint going up tonight)…The El Centro Police Department will be manning the Checkpoint. Funding for the operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Checkpoint will be set-up at 8:00 tonight and remain in effect until 2:00 in the morning. Officers will focus on drunk or otherwise impaired drivers, and they will be checking driver’s licenses. Sergeant John Seaman says the effort is to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol related crashes. He says DUI Checkpoints are a proven method to achieve this goal. The Sergeant would not say where the checkpoint would be set-up.
