(Its good news/bad news for the APCD)…The really good news comes from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA has announced the County has reached attainment for National Ambient Air Quality Standard, or NAAQS, for Ozone. The determination was based on certified ambient air monitoring data that show the County has monitored attainment of the 8-hour ozone NAAQS since the 2006-08 monitoring period. The EPA says data indicates continued attainment since the monitoring period. The determination suspends requirements for California to submit an attainment demonstration, a reasonable further progress plan, contingency measures and other planning State Implementation Plans for the County. Ozone pollution is commonly known as smog. On the other side, continued high levels of PM 2.5 are being registered in the Calexico area. Tuesday levels once again reached a condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. PM 2.5 is the result of vehicle emissions and other finite Particles in the air.
