(SDSU/IV students plan a Candlelight Vigil)…The students will be protesting the decision to cut enrollment.

The Chancellor of the California State University has asked San Diego State University to cut enrollment by 10.8%. SDSU President Doctor Stephen Weber has mandated the Imperial Valley campus’s cut enrollment by 11.6%. Protest organizers say this will have a tremendous impact on the local campuses. They say the impact will be even greater because of the size of the local campuses. They say the effects to the student body and community is both extensive and harmful. Candlelight Vigils will be held at the SDSU Calexico and Brawley Campuses Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. The protestors claim the enrollment reduction, combined with schools refusal to fill 12 faculty positions in the past five years, closing the local public administration and business masters programs, and the Valley’s only research institute is dismantling the SDSU/IV Campus and making local higher education options scarce.
