(A day after film screening, John Hunter confronts the IID Board)…Hunter participated in the screening Monday of the documentary “The 800 Mile Wall” at Imperial Valley College. Tuesday, Hunter, the films Director John Carlos Frey, Andrea Guerrero of the American Civil Liberties Union and several students and faculty from IVC filled the Imperial Irrigation District’s Condit Auditorium. The brother of former Congressman Duncan Hunter and his wife Laura told the Board they were tired of waiting for safety devices to be installed in the recently concrete lined section of the All American Canal. Guerrero told the Board they may be legally responsible for the deaths of the people who have drowned in the canal. Frey threatened the Directors, saying his film would be going national soon, and it named each and every IID Director. Hunter and most of his group did not stay to hear a presentation on the District’s plans to test and install buoy lines at various intervals. Only Guerrero remained to listen to Water department manager Mike King explain that the lines would be tested in December, and more than likely installed the first of the year. King also said solar powered strobe lights would be installed near ladders placed in various locations of the concrete lining.
