(El Centro store clerk stabbed)…Police Lt. Paul Longoria says the incident occurred Sunday night.

Longoria says the clerk worked at the El Centro Book and Video Store in the 400 block of Main Street. The clerk apparently recognized a patron as someone who had stolen merchandise from the store the week before. The clerk confronted the suspect, and as he escorted the man out of the facility, the suspect turned, punched the clerk, then took a knife out of his waistband and stabbed the clerk in the upper torso. The suspect fled the scene. Longoria says the clerk, who was not identified, was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, then life-flighted to a San Diego area hospital. The Lt. says his condition is not known. The suspect is described at a Latin male, between 20 and 25 years of age and around five feet five inches tall. Longoria says no suspect has been arrested as the investigation continues.
