(El Centro P.D. putting grant to work this week)…The Department has scheduled a Checkpoint for Thursday. The Police Department received a $120,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is to help the Department crack-down on Drunk and otherwise impaired drivers. El Centro Police Sergeant John Seaman says a good way to do that is by setting up a Checkpoint. The operation has proven successful in reducing the number of Drunk or Impaired drivers on the roads, therefore reducing the number of fatalities injuries on the local roadways. This Thursday a Checkpoint will be set-up from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am somewhere in El Centro. The Sergeant will not say exactly where. Seaman says by publicizing the Operation, the number of Drunk Drivers will be reduced, and that is the purpose of the program. |
