(The beginning of a drug tunnel found)….Mexicali police found the start of a tunnel at an abandoned bar.

Officials in Mexicali say they received an anonymous call, informing them a tunnel was under construction. They went to the site Thursday, at Azueta Street and Colon Avenue. It is the former site of the Flamingo Bar., just yards away from the border fence. Officers broke the glass door of the former bar to gain entrance. Once inside they found construction equipment, but no people. Officers found what they believe is the beginning of a drug smuggling tunnel. The opening is 3x5 feet, and about 9 feet deep. They say the direction of the tunnel was headed north. The site has been taken over by the Mexican Military, who are conducting the investigation. They say Customs and Border Protection was also notified.
