(High levels of PM 2.5 in Calexico)…The Imperial County Air Pollution Control District issued an Air Quality Alert.

The air quality monitor at Calexico’s East station reached 102 on the Air Quality Index for PM 2.5 at 11:00 am Wednesday. It was a 24 average. They say this represents a condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children are the groups most at risk, especially when they are physically active. The APCD recommends high-risk residents in the affected area postpone outdoor activities to days when particulate levels are lower. PM 2.5 is a finite particulate matter, produced by vehicle emissions and dust. Air Quality for the rest of the County was reported as good for Wednesday.
