(Semmes back at work)…Jim Semmes retired October 31.

He worked over 30 years for the County, the last 28 as Director of the Social Services Department. This week, he was back at work, doing the same thing. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday agreed to a one-year contract with Semmes. He will work as an independent Contractor, doing the same thing he has done for almost 30 years. County Executive Officer Ralph Cordova Jr. said keeping Semmes on as the Head of the Social Services Department will allow him to continue leading current programs and continue to develop new ones. Cordova said Semmes will work 40-hour weeks under the contract, and the contract will save the County $65,000 per year. Semmes will be making $66.47 per hour. He will submit a monthly bill to the County for his services. Semmes will not be provided any Health or Life insurance, and the County will not withhold any payments from his paychecks. The contract can be terminated by either party with 30 days notice, without cause. Semmes says he will help in the search and training of a permanent Social Services Director.
