(Complaint filed against Border Patrol)…The complaint was filed by the Mayor of San Luis Rio Colorado and the Mexican Consulate. They are complaining about an October 19 incident. The Mexicans say on that day Yuma Sector Border Patrol threw an explosive device across the International Border. They contend the device exploded about three miles west of the San Luis Port of Entry, creating a panic in residents in that area. In their response, Border Patrol Officials say agents responded to a call of three illegal immigrants stealing copper wire from light fixtures on the U.S. side of the border. In an attempt to arrest the three, the Border Patrol says two concussion devices were tossed. They said one inadvertently went across the border and exploded in Mexico. They say the agents came under attack from rock throwers. The Mexican Consulate in the Arizona region, Miguel Escobar, said he condemned the Border Patrol actions. He said such incidents should never be repeated on the Mexican side of the Border. The Consulate says he is still waiting for an official response from the Border Patrol. |
