(October is “Domestic Violence Awareness Month”)…The County Board of Supervisors made their annual proclamation Tuesday.

The Center for Family Solutions received the Proclamation from the Board. The Center representatives said despite state funding cuts, cases of Domestic Violence continue, and they, as an agency, continue to help and support the victims. They said last year in Imperial County over 6,000 cases were reported. The Center helped 800 victims obtain restraining orders. They say Domestic Violence cuts across ethnic, economic and societal barriers. They say the biggest enemy for victims is society’s indifference to the problem. That is why Domestic Violence Awareness Month is necessary. During the month, the Center and others make every effort to make the public aware of the problem and its seriousness. One of the main events for the month is the Candlelight March. This year the March will be held October 15. Participants will gather at the steps of the County Courthouse. They will March down Main Street to the Town Square. At the downtown park, there will be special speakers and testimonials.
