Heber teen killed in weekend traffic collision

(18 year old suffers fatal injuries)….The victim was identified by Deputy Coroner Tommy Garcia as 18-year-old Eva Murakami of Heber. The victim was a passenger in a 1999 Honda Civic being driven by Jennifer Arredondo, also of Heber. The California Highway Patrol says Arredondo was driving south on Dogwood Road Saturday. She was apparently trying to drive around slower traffic. At 12:30 pm, just north of McCabe Road, Arredondo drove her vehicle into the path of a northbound vehicle, driven by 62 year old Jesus Mercado from Calexico. The northbound vehicle hit the passenger side of the Honda, ripping it apart. The impact sent the Honda over a canal. Murakami was pronounced dead at the scene. Arredondo and Mercado both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment.
