(Cooperative agreement between U.S. and Mexico signed)….The agreement deals with International Firearms Trafficking cases. The letter of agreement is supported by President Obama and Mexican President Calderon. The letter was signed Thursday by the Department of Homeland Security, the Mexican Attorney General, Mexican National Public Security office, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The Letter of Intent is to develop a coordinated and intelligence-driven response to the threat of cross border smuggling and trafficking of weapons and ammunition. It recommends a joint strategic implementation plan to develop cooperative protocols to investigate weapons and ammunition trafficking in the United States and Mexico and improve information sharing between the two countries. |
