(Brawley will get two new City Councilmembers)…The extended deadline to file nomination forms ended Wednesday evening.

In the Brawley City Council race on the November 3 ballot had to be extended because the incumbents decided not to seek re-election. Long time City Councilmen John Benson and Steve Vasquez did not file. The ballot for the Consolidated General Election in November will feature three candidates running for the two city council seats. On the Ballot will be Toni Carrillo, Sam Couchman and Miguel Miranda. El Centro will also vote on two City Council seats. El Centro incumbents Ben Solomon and Cheryl Viegas-Walker will face off against Jason Jackson in November. Most of the ballots will be filled with school and special districts. Several races have been closed because the candidates to file were the same number of seats available. The Candidates in those races will be appointed in lieu of an election. Those races include County Board of Education areas one and two, El Centro Elementary School District, Holtville Unified, Palo Verde County Water District and Winterhaven Fire Protection District.
