Early Tuesday morning El Centro Police responded to a residents call that someone had just stolen his truck from the driveway of his home.

The call came in at 4:27 a.m. from a resident of the 1200 block of El Dorado Drive in El Centro. The victim told police that he last saw his truck heading southbound on 8th Street. Officer Thomson of the El Centro Police Department spotted the truck at 8th and Broadway and followed the vehicle west on Broadway at which time a brief pursuit began. The truck hit a curb at 9th and State Streets, blowing out two tires , and the driver and a passenger bailed out of the truck and fled on foot. El Centro Police Lt. Paul Longoria says that officers set up a perimiter in the area to contain the suspects. The passenger , identified as Justin Botelo , was located in an alley hiding under some debris. The driver , Carlos Lopez , was found hiding in a shed in the 800 block of Olive Avenue. Botello was charged with conspiricy to commit auto theft. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Lopez was charged with stealing the truck as well as attempting to evade officers. Both men were booked into Imperial County Jail.
