(Suspected robbers chased down)….El Centro police say it all began at 1:35 Thursday morning. Officers responded to a call of an armed robbery. Commander Ron Meredith says the robbery occurred in the area of 4th and Ross. The victims said a van containing several Hispanic males pulled up to them as they were walking down the sidewalk. Meredith says one suspect pulled a silver semi-automatic handgun and robbed the victims of beer and their wallets. A short time later a second robbery was reported at the AM/PM store at Imperial and Main Streets. The clerk reported he was robbed at gunpoint. The Commander says the suspect and vehicle description was similar to the first report. At 1:54 am, patrolling officers spotted the suspect van in the area of La Brucherie and Main. The officers attempted to stop the van, but the suspects fled. The officers pursued the vehicle to an area near La Brucherie and Barbara Worth Street. Meredith says the van sideswiped a southbound vehicle. The collision caused minor damage to both vehicles, but no injuries. The pursuit continued to the area of 23rd Street and Brighton Avenue. Meredith says officers were able to apply the pursuit intervention technique or PIT maneuver. The van came to a stop. Officers took two females into custody. Two males in the vehicle fled. Assistance was requested from the California Highway Patrol, Imperial Police Department, County Sheriff’s and U.S. Border Patrol. A perimeter was established and one of the male suspects was captured. At last report, the second suspect was still outstanding. The Commander says the suspect van was found to be stolen. Booked into County Jail on various charges were 36-year-old Conception Mary Wilson, 20-year-old Elizabeth Velasquez and 29-year-old Mariano Guerrero. All are residents of Heber. |
