(County getting ready to celebrate nations birthday)….Independence Day is Saturday.

Despite the current fiscal crunch, 4th of July celebrations will go on as planned in the County. The major celebration will be at the Campus of Imperial Valley College. Static displays will open at Freedom Fest at 6:00 pm, with a major fireworks show, synchronized to music on FM 107, starting at around 9:30 pm. County Fire Chief Tony Rouhotas says an Operational Plan for Freedom Fest has been developed. He said the County Department would be joining forces with participating departments around the county to guard against any incidental fires getting out of hand. The Chief says 10 pieces of equipment will be stationed in and around the IVC campus during Freedom Fest. Rouhotas is also reminding residents the personal sale of fireworks is illegal in most areas of the County. He said since the ban went into effect, the Fourth of July has been very uneventful. Fireworks are being sold in Calipatria and Westmorland. Calipat will host a fireworks show at 8:30 Saturday evening. The fire department says they will be patrolling the City during the show. In Westmorland fireworks are being sold, but they cannot be lit within the City limits.
