(Border Patrol agents seize a large amount of cash)….Early Monday morning the agents stopped a Ford Explorer on Interstate 10, near Blythe.

During the stop, the agents say they noticed the driver was nervous and his story contained multiple inconsistencies. A Border Patrol K-9 team searched the vehicle, and the dog hit on the rear cargo area. After a more detailed search, agents discovered a large amount of U.S. Currency in a hidden compartment located in the backseat of the Explorer. The Border Patrol says their K-9’s are trained to detect odors of concealed people and illegal narcotics. They say in this case, the animal alerted on the odor of narcotics on the money. Record checks indicated the vehicle had entered the United States from Mexico within the past 72 hours. Federal law requires that currency in excess of $10,000 must be reported when entering the country. A total of $12,085 was seized by the Border Patrol and transported to the Blythe Station for processing. They did not say what happened to the driver or his vehicle.
