(Human smugglers arrested)…The four were taken into custody in Tecate.

It was the result of a joint operation between the State Police of Baja California and the Municipal police in Tecate. The four suspects were discovered attempting to smuggle 13 individuals into the United States. Taken into custody were 28-year-old Marcos Guevara Gallegos, 20-year-old Armando Monzon Mendez, 23-year-old Sergio Monzon Mendez, and a 16-year-old juvenile. Investigators say the four were charging the individuals between $2,500 and $3,500 each to illegally smuggle them across the international border. They say the suspects admitted they were coyotes, and said they were working for people in California. They did not identify their employers. The Director of the Baja State Police, Eusebio Alecio Villatoro Cortez, said his department would continue to work with municipal police departments in an on-going crackdown on human smugglers.
