Fathers day weekend was busy for U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at downtown Calexico International port of entry. Four narcotics seizures were made at the pedestrian gate in the afternoon hours when traffic is heaviest. The incidents involved the smuggling of a few pounds of marijuana and methamphetamine strapped to the pedestrians torso or inner leg. The travelers caught were all wearing loose clothing to hide the bulging packages taped to their bodies. The four taken into custody ranged in age from 16 to 41 years old. Three are residents of the Imperial Valley. The total weight for the four pedestrian seizures was 8 pounds, 7 pounds of marijuana and 1 pound of methamphetamine. The street value is $16,400. On Friday , at about 4:30 P.M. , a 28 year old Mexican citizen was arrested after 53 pounds of methamphetamine was found hidden in his vehicles gas tank. The street value of that seizure is over $556,000. |
