(El Centro Mayor appears on CNN)….Mayor Ben Solomon and El Centro Resident Anthony Plancarte participated in the program. They were interviewed in the latter part of the special program “Money and Mainstreet.” The interview was conducted by Anderson Cooper via satellite. The interview dealt with the high unemployment in El Centro, which has the highest jobless rate in the nation. Plancarte is an unemployed resident of El Centro. Solomon explained, in the short time allowed, what the City was doing to alleviate the jobless problem. He told Cooper the City needed a “Hand-up, not a Hand-out.” Plancarte discussed the difficulty he has had in trying to find a job. The Solomon interview was conducted simultaneously the Mayor of a Mid-West City with the lowest unemployment rate in the Nation.
