(Calexico Police turn away hundreds of kids)….The Department set up a teen turn around and sobriety checkpoint.

The operations were set up following the Graduation ceremonies at Calexico High School. Police set up at the entrance to Mexicali. Lt. Gonzalo Gerardo said 400 kids were turned back from entering Mexico. The Teen Turn Around Operations are designed to keep unauthorized teens from crossing the border. Gerardo says no suspected Drunk Drivers were detecting entering Mexicali. He said, however, one 18 year old was arrested for suspected DUI as he came back across the border early Thursday morning. The Lt. says similar operations are planned in the near future. They are designed to help maintain curfews and prevent under aged kids from getting into trouble across the border. The operations are supported and encouraged by the Mexicali law enforcement community.
