Yuma, Arizona – July 18, 2006 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that they have reached an agreement with KXO Radio in El Centro, California, to provide internet information, scores and columns on the radio stations’ internet site, www.kxoradio.com.  The announcement means the first direct internet news link that the Imperial Valley will have to the college.

Imperial Valley sports fans have had an increasing number of reasons to pay attention to AWC Athletics in recent years, thanks to a growing number of student-athletes from Imperial County high schools choosing to make the 60-mile trip east to start their collegiate careers at Arizona Western College.  Now, kxoradio.com will provide those current and new Matador fans a link to even more information on the web.  KXO’s impressive, newly revamped website will offer Matador fans press releases, scores and columns about Matador Athletics on the site-as well as information about the college itself, and a link to the soon-to-be-debuted new-look AWC website.  “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to expand our athletic department’s scope west,” said AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith.  “Any time that we have the chance to get the word out about the great things our student-athletes and our programs are doing, we want to do it.  And since we’ve had student-athletes from the Imperial Valley not just be part of our program but have starting roles in various sports over the last few years, it’s a great connection.  For KXO to want to help spread the word like this really shows how in tune they are with the Imperial Valley community.”  In exchange, AWC Athletics will provide exclusive columns to KXO’s website.  "Everyone involved is excited about this strategic information partnership with Arizona Western College's Athletic Department,” remarked KXO President & General Manager Gene Brister.  “(AWC Sports Information Director & ‘Voice of the Matadors’) Jim Howell offering to provide his unique perspective-via a sports column which will publish on the KXO Radio website on behalf of AWC-will be enjoyed by our website visitors and radio listeners alike."

The newly revamped website is just the latest feather in the caps of KXO AM & FM.  KXO AM 1230 is ‘the Pioneer Voice of the Valley’, having first signed on the air in 1927, and is one of the few broadcast stations across the nation old enough to be allowed to use only 3 call letters.  It shouldn’t be a surprise to any KXO AM fans about their interest in providing information about Matador Athletics, since their sports scope already includes being the longtime Imperial Valley radio home of the San Diego Chargers, Los Angeles Lakers, San Diego Padres, and Central Spartans’ football.  Meanwhile, KXO FM 107.5 provides listeners with a fresh mix of today’s hits and yesterday’s favorites.  Both radio stations are locally owned and operated.  “We’re so appreciative of KXO to partner up with us,” remarked Howell.  “(KXO Vice President) Carroll Buckley and Gene Brister haven’t just been good business associates with me over the years-they’ve been good friends.  I’m looking forward to continuing that great personal alliance with them by helping forge a new business relationship between AWC and KXO Radio.”  Visitors to kxoradio.com can already enjoy AWC information on the kxoradio.com website.
