Yuma, Arizona – Arizona Western College announced that it will host the Arizona Western College Football Coaching Clinic Friday, May 4th, from 4:30PM until 7:30PM on the Arizona Western College campus.
The clinic will precede the AWC Matador Football team’s final spring appearance of the season, the Cardinal & Gold Spring Scrimmage, which will be held at the AWC Football practice field beginning at 7:30PM that evening.
The clinic is free, and is open to any and all athletic directors, high school football coach, junior high school coaches and Pop Warner Football coaches from around the area who are looking to improve their coaching skills and shore up the message they send to their athletes each fall. There will be a variety of football-related areas covered, including for individual position coaches and offensive and defensive coordinators. There will also be a mini-seminar about how to streamline and improve video editing skills, followed by speeches from two special guest speakers: AWC President (and former longtime football coach and athletic director) Dr. Don Schoening and University of Nevada-Las Vegas Assistant Head Football Coach (and defensive coordinator) Vic Shealy. The clinic will be followed by the final drills of the season for the AWC Football Team. The annual Cardinal & Gold Scrimmage will be held at the AWC Football Practice Field (which is between Kammann Field (the AWC Baseball field) and the AWC Softball Field), Friday, May 4th, at 7:30PM. Approximately 70 football players will take the field in pads and helmets for a scrimmage that should last about an hour. Admission to the scrimmage is free, and is open to the public. After that, the football Matadors will put the equipment away until they begin training camp during the first week of August. The Matadors’ first football game of the 2007 season will be September 1st.
Those coaches wanting to make a reservation for the clinic or just have general questions are encouraged to call AWC Head Football Coach James Pryor as soon as possible at (928) 344-7698. |
