The 5th ranked Arizona Western College Matador basketball team (12-2) stopped 8th ranked Odessa Collage (12-2) in the consolation game of the Wells Fargo Classic 88-85.
Matador Head Coach Kelly Green stated, “I thought we showed some grit in the overtime. As a team we really thought we’d come out and play better tonight. We showed better offensive patience tonight. I thought we executed much better in the half-court setting. We broke down defensively late in the game, and every time we did, they made us pay with a 3-pointer. We really had to fight and scratch to come up with some of the big rebounds down the stretch.” In the championship game Carl Albert State (7-11) defeated 7th ranked Phoneix College (9-4) by the score of 74-69.
